TEKO strengthens sales in Spain and Portugal
Mohamed Said Hichou joins TEKO’s international sales team as Sales Manager for Spain and Portugal. He will support customers, consultants, contractors and operators while driving business development across the Iberian markets.
Mohamed Said Hichou brings more than 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration. His professional focus has been on sales, business development and consulting, with particular emphasis on refrigeration systems, energy efficiency and natural refrigerants. In addition, he has in-depth market knowledge of Morocco, which he will also contribute to the development of business relationships in Southern Europe and North Africa.
In this interview, Mohamed talks about his new role at TEKO, the opportunities for CO₂ refrigeration technology in Spain and Portugal and what matters most to him when working with customers.
TEKO: Mohamed, how would you describe your new role at TEKO?
Mohamed: I am responsible for developing TEKO’s business in Spain and Portugal. In this role, I support customers, consultants, contractors and operators in both markets. I also want to use my experience in the Moroccan market to strengthen business relationships in Southern Europe and North Africa, contribute market insights and support customers in identifying new opportunities in these regions.
TEKO: What professional experience do you bring with you?
Mohamed: I have more than 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration. Throughout my career, I have worked in sales, business development and consulting. My focus has always been on refrigeration systems, energy efficiency and natural refrigerants. This combination of technical expertise and sales experience helps me to understand customer requirements in detail and propose suitable solutions.
TEKO: What convinced you to join TEKO?
Mohamed: TEKO has strong engineering expertise and a clear technical focus. I was particularly convinced by the focus on sustainable refrigeration solutions based on natural refrigerants. CO₂ technology is increasingly becoming the benchmark for future-proof refrigeration. I wanted to be part of a company that is actively shaping this transition.
TEKO: What role would you like to take between the markets and TEKO?
Mohamed: My goal is to strengthen the connection between the Latin markets and TEKO’s engineering and manufacturing teams. Clear communication, technical quality and customer-focused solutions are at the heart of this. By combining local market knowledge with German engineering expertise, I want to help customers find the right refrigeration systems for their projects and build long-term partnerships.
TEKO: How do you view the markets in Spain and Portugal?
Mohamed: Spain and Portugal offer significant growth potential for natural refrigerants. Stricter environmental regulations, higher energy efficiency requirements and ambitious sustainability targets are accelerating the use of CO₂ refrigeration technology. This applies, among others, to supermarkets, industrial applications, logistics, data centers and commercial buildings.
I also see great potential in the retrofit market. Due to the revised F-Gas Regulation, refrigerants with a high GWP are being gradually reduced. As a result, many existing stores and systems will need to be converted to natural refrigerants in the future. This is where TEKO can support customers with future-proof and energy-efficient CO₂ solutions that meet regulatory requirements while reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
TEKO: What matters most to you when working with customers?
Mohamed: For me, successful partnerships are based on trust, transparency, technical competence and open communication. Customers in Mediterranean markets value honest advice, quick responses and reliable support throughout every stage of a project.
TEKO: What is your first goal at TEKO?
Mohamed: During my first few months, I would like to meet as many customers, consultants, contractors and business partners as possible in person. It is important to me to gain an even better understanding of the local markets and to further establish TEKO as a reliable supplier of high-performance CO₂ refrigeration solutions in Spain and Portugal.
TEKO: CO₂ refrigeration technology in three words?
Mohamed: Sustainable. Efficient. Future-proof.
TEKO: What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
Mohamed: I am looking forward to meeting our customers and partners, working closely with the TEKO team and contributing to the growth of CO₂ refrigeration solutions in Spain and Portugal.
